• John Holmberg Northeast Minneapolis Campaign HD60A

John Holmberg is running on a practical, common-sense platform: safer neighborhoods, better schools, honest government, and bringing manufacturing back to Minnesota. Here’s where John Holmberg stands.

Every Minnesotan Deserves to Feel Safe

Northeast is one of the best places to live in Minneapolis. But public safety concerns are real, and they deserve real solutions, not politics. John supports effective public safety, fair accountability in the justice system, and neighborhoods where families and small businesses can thrive.

John’s Approach

  • Support effective public safety: Make sure law enforcement has the staffing, resources, and laws it needs to respond, investigate, and protect us.
  • Hold repeat offenders accountable: Strengthen sentences for habitual offenders. Someone who commits the same serious crime again and again should face real consequences.
  • End early release loopholes: When a judge hands down a sentence, it should be served. Offenders should not walk free after serving as little as half of it.
  • Give voters a voice in the courts: Support judicial retention elections so the public can weigh in when judges fall short.
  • Stand with Northeast’s small businesses: Shop owners and restaurants along our commercial corridors should never have to choose between staying safe and staying open.

Academic Excellence, Parental Partnership

Every child deserves an education that sets them up for real success, whether that means college, a skilled trade, or starting a business. John believes in strong academic standards, parents as partners, and more choices for families when their assigned school isn’t the right fit.

John’s Approach

  • Prioritize academic achievement: Center the curriculum on reading, writing, math, and critical thinking, so Minnesota graduates can compete for good jobs and college anywhere.
  • Empower families with school choice: Let parents direct their child’s education funding, including through tax credits, to the public, private, charter, or home school that serves their child best. More options and healthy competition raise standards for everyone.
  • Bring back the trades: Expand career and technical education in high schools, and partner with employers and technical colleges so students can graduate into good-paying skilled jobs.
  • Cut unfunded mandates: State mandates that eat school budgets without improving results should go, so dollars reach classrooms and teachers.
  • Partner with parents: Parents should be informed, involved partners. Families should know what is being taught and have a real voice.

Your Tax Dollars Deserve Better

Minnesota has a proud tradition of programs that help people in need. Those programs, and the taxpayers who fund them, have been badly let down by fraud. The Feeding Our Future case alone involved about $250 million stolen from a federal program meant to feed children, and fraud has since turned up in housing, autism services, child care, and other programs.

Minnesotans work hard and pay their taxes in good faith. They deserve a state government that checks before it pays, catches problems early, and treats every dollar as if it were their own.

John’s Approach

  • Check before paying: Any organization receiving state funds should prove it is legitimate before a dollar goes out the door.
  • Audit grants and nonprofits: Every agency that hands out grants and subsidies should face regular, independent audits, with results the public can see.
  • Protect the programs that matter: Stopping fraud protects the people these programs were meant to help.
  • Responsible budgeting: Cut spending that does not serve citizens.
  • Make everyday life more affordable: Reduce the tax and regulatory burdens that drive up the cost of housing, groceries, and daily life for working Minnesotans.

Let’s Make Things in Minnesota Again

Northeast Minneapolis was built by people who made things. Generations of families here worked in breweries, rail yards, and factories, and those jobs let a family buy a home, raise kids, and retire with dignity. Manufacturing jobs still pay well, and many don’t require a four-year degree.

Today too many of the things we depend on are made overseas, sometimes in countries that don’t share our interests. Minnesota has the workers, the natural resources, and the work ethic to compete. John wants St. Paul to make it easier, not harder, to build here.

John’s Approach

  • Lower the cost of doing business: Reduce the taxes and regulations that push manufacturers to expand in other states or overseas instead of here.
  • Keep energy affordable and reliable: Factories run on power. Support an all-of-the-above energy approach that keeps electricity affordable and the lights on.
  • Speed up permits: A new plant or expansion shouldn’t wait years for an answer. Set firm deadlines for state permit decisions while keeping strong environmental standards.
  • Support responsible mining: Minnesota sits on some of the largest copper and nickel deposits in the country. Mine them here, with strong environmental safeguards, instead of depending on foreign adversaries for the materials we need.
  • Train the workforce: Expand apprenticeships and partnerships between employers and technical colleges, so Minnesotans can fill the jobs manufacturing creates.

Northeast was built by people who made things. With the right policies, it can be again.
